U get angry over the same thing one too many times and eventually 1 day u realise, it doesn’t bother u anymore. It doesn’t matter. U simply turn numb, immune to it all.

Maybe it’s a way of preventing yourself from getting hurt & disappointed all over again and again, and again, AND again.

Talk is cheap.

Ricciotti July 30, 2008

Filed under: food — modgam @ 5:52 pm

Our company gives each dept; video and audio $500 every year for us to dine together or do some activities together as a dept. Can’t exactly remember what we ate for the past 2 years; vaguely remembered we had Swensons Lunch, Mac breakfast in meetings, Pizza Hut, Buffet etc etc… one of our meal this year was at Ricciotti. We have always wanted to go down for Ricciotti after we tried their yummylicious cakes for our monthly birthday celebrations (another company perk) but Rimah went on maternity and some other delays here and there, we only manage to head downstairs (ya, my office is just upstairs) on 24th July. The feeling was sad and weird cos it is the same day we bid goodbye to our office. In the morning, we packed all our last minute stuffs and waited for the movers to come ard 11am to shift all barangs barangs. We helped each other and finally manage to clear all around 1pm.

We took the bubble lift down, one last time, and there it is Ricciotti. We decided to reward ourselves with pizza, cakes and drinks.  Everyone was tired and feeling a little lost not knowing what our new office would be like. Afterall we are shifting from Hamptons to Queens. Rental went up by 4 times, so we had no choice but move. Anyway, will talk about this on my next blog.

We ordered 2 pizza; one chicken and one i-don’t-know-what-pizza. I was too busy checking out the menu for drinks and cakes. Anyhow, I only manage to take pics with the girls Im sitting with.

Fiorelllo  S$2.50 – Ricciotti‘s signature bread; grilled ciabatta bread with olive oil.

Mariam and I had Torino $8.00 – Gianduja flavour from the Italian capital of Chocolate – made from a blend of the best cocoa beans mixed with the finest hazelnuts.

Mine: Soffiato $8.90 -  commonly known as soufflé; warm dark chocolate cake with chocolate chip ice-cream. My all time favourite dessert.

Mariam ordered Strudel $7.80 – apple pie with golden raisins, pine kernels and vanilla ice-cream.

Weiting had Profiterol $7.80 – chantilly cream puffs coated with chocolate. Each puffs are filled with different filling. There are 3 puffs altogether; chocolate, pistachio nuts and vanilla if I remembered correctly.

Diplomatica $7.80 – puff pastry and sponge cake layered with hazelnut custard and chocolate. Luckily the staff came in time to inform Rimah that this cake contains alcohol and offered to change another one for her.

Limoncino $7.80 – refreshing pie made of lemon custard and smooth meringue. Rimah loves the taste and enjoyed every bit of it.

Marche Restaurant July 29, 2008

Filed under: food — modgam @ 11:18 pm

After Shokudo, I have this sudden serious craving for Marche. Especially it’s Rosti and chicken breast meat. *drools* Matt is back from UK for his break and I arranged for Marche. haha… Sorry Ben, there goes your chicken rice with steamboat. The new Marche is located at the top of Vivo City. I awed at the structure of Marche. The staff urshered us to a cosy corner. Nice. I must say the interior of the stalls look even better now and I really like it.

Ben and I decided to have some hot soup while waiting for Matt and D.  Ben ordered mushroom soup and I had clam chowder. After taking the 1st sip, we looked at each other with disappointment. Our soup aren’t even hot, it’s barely warm. I’m positive our face has this typical HUH look!!! After my 2nd sip, I couldn’t drink it no more. Ben did better, he took more than 5 sips and that’s it.

Ben went to walk around and ordered a plate of fried mushrooms. It’s a little salty but nice. The freshly squeezed Orange juice tasted good. Matt n D are still on their way. Feeling hungry so I went to order my long awaited rosti and chicken breast. heh.

I have high expectations for Marche’s Rosti and was a little disappointed. It tasted good but somehow wasn’t the same. As per Thai Lingo ‘Same Same but Different’. I was definitely expecting better.

Chicken breast meat was a little hard to chew and the gravy tasted plain. Total disappointment too.

As the toilet is outside the restaurant, you have to hand over your Marche card along with your NRIC to the staff before stepping out! I think they need to have a proper system for exiting to the toilet and back. Ben handed his NRIC and Marche card to one of the staff and when he returned, he had to scout for that staff to get this cards back!! The staff at the counter wanted to give Ben a new card and thought he was queuing to enter?!!

Matt ordered rosti too and D ordered half chicken and  mushroom pasta. Forgot to take pics of his food, guess I was busy catching up with Matt and maybe the enthusiasm died after all the food tasting. Ben foot my bill (THANKS love) and I forgot to get the receipt from him to blog the prices. After that, we drove to Farrer Park 24hr Mac to chill and continue bitching part 2.

Shokudo Japanese Food Bazaar 2 July 28, 2008

Filed under: food — modgam @ 1:48 am

My way overdue blog and i havent even time to blog the entire Sam’s birthday surprise. Ok, food 1st. For her birthday, we went back to Shokudo since Mama wanted to try that. Tried some different food this time. I misplaced the receipts so i wont be able to name the dishes nor quote the prices. Haha… will go dig for it again.

Picture 1: Shabu Shabu; the soup is a little light for my liking but Sam loves it.

Picture 2: D ordered chicken steak rice or something. The tomato rice is a little too cold for his liking. The chicken meat is also a little tough.

Picture 3: my favourite baby octopus and that salmon omelette.

Picture 4: Rosti with curry! It’s yummy. Have always love a good ol’rosti. haha… japanese curry too. not too spicy for a ketchup girl.

Picture 5: Terriyaki Chicken Pizza; VERY VERY YUMMY. The crust is so thin and crispy, I thought I was having ’keropok’.

Picture 6: Mushroon Spaghetti; rather nice and too bad I was a little full else I will want to try the vongole one.

Picture 7: Some BBQ beef chunks; OMG… It is SOOOOOOOOO and may i say SOOOOOO VERY nice we went to order a few more sticks after having 2!

After 2 Shokudo within a week, I will not be having Shokudo for quite a while now. hahaha… Dear you gotto wait a bit for me hor… u see lah, ask u to try 1st don’t want lah, now wana go must wait a while ok? Ok lah hor… hahahahahaha *winks*

Magic Straws July 18, 2008

Filed under: food, interesting — modgam @ 2:03 pm

I called them Magic Straws! hahaha… to everyone and anyone out there, if you are afraid of drinking milk, HAVE NO FEAR for YOUR CURE IS HERE! I don’t really like drinking milk for the taste is a little too strong for me. I read about these straws online and Mama Sam surprised me with it at her place! She said you have got to try this, I was still reluctant and when I took the 1st sip, VIOLA! I couldn’t stop sipping and finish 1.5cup of fresh milk! All thanks to Sipahh Chocolate Mint straw!

Mama Sam gave me 2 flavours; Cookies n Cream & Chocolate Mint.

Just put the straw into the cup of milk and sip! As easy as 1, 2, 3. Let’s just say, drinking milk will never be the same again. HAHAHAHA

Mama S prefers cookies n cream whereas Auntie M prefers chocolate mint.

Quote from their website:

Sipahh are a fun and easy way to make milk even more delicious for kids. Each straw is loaded with delicious flavor beads that dissolve into flavors kids love: chocolate, strawberry, banana and cookies & cream.

What are Sipahhs? They’re flavored beads trapped between two filters inside a plastic straw that flavors the milk when sucked on. In other words, it’s a less messy and more fun way to flavor milk than bottles of syrup that take up space in your refrigerator.

Like bottled syrups but unlike flavored milk in cartons, Sipahhs allow the members of your family who like or need flavored milk and those who prefer it straight to pour from the same carton (thus saving on money and expiration-date concerns).

Drinking milk with a Sipahh straw is as easy as 1, 2, 3. All kids need to do is Dip, Sip and Say “Ahh!” Simple to use and no mess. Also no mixing, measuring or stirring required for kids – or moms!

Mama S got them online but the good news is you don’t have to order online for these straws now. You can get them here in Singapore too. The only store I know that is selling this is Prime Supermarket. Will go check out NTUC, Cold Storage and Carrefour to see if they have this. If you know where I can find more of these, do leave a comment. Thanks!

Shokudo Japanese Food Bazaar July 18, 2008

Filed under: food — modgam @ 12:46 am

I heard alot about this place before I decided to check it out. I got there just as the queue started forming and before I know it, I turned around and OH MY the queue was sooooo long! Luckily for us (Peter, Angie and I), we queued for like 20mins and we got in! D didnt even have to queue, he called me and i got him in. shucks. haha

If you are a fan of Marche, chances are you would love Shokudo Japanese Food Bazaar. Shokudo shares the similar concept but with japanese cuisine instead. I like the different designs and tasteful theme-like seating areas.

We ordered:

- Salmon w/o onion Omelette S$5.80; I am not exaggerating, it is SO SUPER DUPER DELICIOUS we had to order another plate! I strongly recommend this dish.

- Chukka Lidako S$2.50; I’m a big fan of the japanese baby octupus. The portion is bigger than Sakae’s and cheaper.

- Yaki Gyoza S$5.00; 5pcs of Gyoza. Tasted alright, normal.

- Quail Egg roll w/bacon S$2.50; it’s not too bad, something unusual.

- Gyu Nanban Maki S$5.80; I didn’t eat this for its filled with spring onions. I like my spring onions fried with egg.

- Chicken Fried Rice S$5.80; I wanted it wrap with omelette but I ordered wrongly. It’s nonetheless nice.

- Sukiyaki S$8.80; the soup is nice but the beef looks scary. Maybe we shouldn’t soak it for too long.

-Rosti w/sauages S$9.80; I LOVE ROSTI. Its crispy and nice. I likey.

- Pork Katsu & Egg Rice Bowl S$6.80; I like this katsu very much. It’s not that dry like most Katsu and the egg is thick and juicy. The Pork is also very crispy and crunchy.

- Tofu Steak S$4.80;  tasty.

- Chicken Katsu Curry S$7.80; generous portion, definitely worth the money.

- Mango Kakigoi w/black sesame ice-cream S$8.80; authentic black sesame ice-cream with mango flavoured ice and fruit. Simply refreshing.

I really enjoy the wide array of japanese food here. There are so many different dishes to try and I’m already looking forward to my next visit which is like really soon…

PS Cafe Dempsey July 16, 2008

Filed under: food — modgam @ 4:36 pm

Being tucked in the secluded top of Dempsey Road, I finally found my way to PS Cafe for desserts. Been wanting to check out this place and finally brought Hock there as his surprise advanced birthday treat!

I like how they separate the dinner area with the dessert. The staffs were really friendly and approachable and 1 helped me secure a spot at the dessert area as I’ve requested. The dessert area was really cosy with big sofa and pillows. The ambience was incredible.

I love the cake counter. Gosh! Mouth watering!!! The slices of the cakes are HUGE.

We ordered 4 cakes; Double Chocolate Cake (S$14.90), Chocolate Banana Cheese Cake (S$12.90), Chocolate Cappuccino Cheese Cake (S$12.90) and Pecan Pie (S$12.90). These cakes are really worth the money!!! SUPER SUPER DELICIOUS and melts in your mouth!!!

We also ordered some drinks; peach and lychee fiz (S$7.00), Honey Lemon Soother (S$7.00), Red Wine Sangria (S$15.00). The bill came up to a total of S$105.46 but the company was priceless. If i wana pamper myself with a yummy piece of cake, I know exactly where to ‘da bao’!!
